One of the biggest questions we get at SwimmingPool.com from prospective pool owners is, “how hard is it to maintain a swimming pool?” Though the answers are varied depending on the type and size of the pool, the general answer we can provide is that now it’s easier than ever!
If you decide that hiring a pool professional to maintain your pool is not the way you want to go, there are a great deal of options to keep pool maintenance down to just minutes a day. Your pool’s filter system can keep the water clean and chemistry will do the fine tuning, but your best weapon at keeping dirt and other debris from making your pool water uninviting is an automatic cleaner.
There are a few different types of automatic cleaners: pressure side, suction side and robotic:
Pressure side cleaners sometimes run off of a separate booster pump and pick up dirt and debris from the pool, depositing it into a mesh bag. The Pressure Side Cleaner attaches to the pool's return. The flow of water creates a vacuum that collects the dirt and debris. The advantage is that this debris does not compromise the pool’s filter system. Just remember to empty the bag when is it full. This will allow the automatic cleaner to maintain your pool both quickly and efficiently.
A suction side cleaner uses the swimming pool's pump to operate and can be used with both inground and above ground pools. Because they have only one moving part, it is a great, simple option for first-time pool owners. The dirt and debris is sucked into the pool’s filter system. Make sure your pool filter is clean to allow the Suction Side Cleaner to work properly.
Robotic Pool Cleaners are the most efficient type of pool cleaner. A robotic pool cleaner features their own filtration system. They do not attach to the pool’s filter system, making them a very popular choice because of their performance and less wear and tear on the pump and filter. They can automatically navigate the swimming pool and are the fastest method for cleaning the pool.
Some manufacturers will indicate on the pool cleaner package what type of surface the pool cleaner should be used on. Still not sure which is the best for your type of pool? Check out the exclusive SwimmingPool.com video below for a more detailed explanation of automatic pool cleaners.
