The temperature is dropping and for some – especially those without a heated pool, that means it’s time to make the move from the pool to the hot tub! Most hot tub owners use it year round, but many wait for the cooler temps to take full advantage of its benefits.
Speaking of benefits – there are so many when you add a hot tub to your backyard. Not only is it a great place to relax, but the therapeutic benefits make them highly recommended by healthcare professionals. The jets and warm water can release tension and relax the muscles. In addition to health benefits, hot tubs are also a great place to gather for an intimate escape or just to unwind with friends at the end of a long day.
Hot tubs come in a variety of sizes, from a small 2 person tub that can operate on a standard electric outlet, to a tub that can accommodate as many as ten! They also come with a variety of features, accessories and designer touches. While visiting a Pool and Spa show last summer, we were able to see a model that even came with a built in waterslide! But if you are looking for a hot tub a bit more low key, you can add sound systems, lighting features or even a television. Don’t forget to add a cover to keep your tub protected from the elements.
Just like a swimming pool, hot tubs also need maintenance. Once the water is properly balanced, it just needs to be sanitized periodically. In general, the water should be drained every two to three months.
Also, proper safety precautions need to be taken with your hot tub, just as with your swimming pool. Because drains and jets can be more powerful in a hot tub than a pool, you need to be even more vigilant to keep your hair from getting tangled in the drain.
Always supervise children and be sure that the cover is in place when the hot tub is not in use.
Never have the soaking temperature above 102 degrees.
Just as with swimming, always share the hot tub with a buddy!
This will not only ensure safety, but also will make it a more enjoyable experience!
